Hollywood has become a political operation, giving up on entertainment. Instead of producing movies people like, the community has decided to promote radical, hate filled, bigoted films and TV shows.

Audiences worn out by franchises and superhero movies would not go to see any aging franchise or superhero movie. Fast X and Guardians became hits because people wanted to see them. But why Fast X and Guardians 3, and not Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny? Another simple answer… Dial of Destiny emasculated and shamed its hero with an unappealing girl sidekick, while Fast X and Guardians 3 remained true to their characters and what made them iconic.
The “existential” truth, and we all know it, is this: Ever since Donald Trump won the presidency in 2016, Hollywood has sought to punish, insult, and alienate Trump voters (half the country) by way of cinematic tantrums that scold and dehumanize us due to our gender, faith, political beliefs, and overall normalcy.
Hollywood’s insane crusade against decent people (and decency) hit warp speed after the murder of George Floyd with a legion of movies where no one behaves or interacts normally. In order to push its social and political agenda, everyone’s a simple-minded stand-in for us evil normal people or the oh-so noble BIPOCLGBTQTARDs. Disney is now “queering” our children. Indiana Jones is criticized as a colonialist. Luke Skywalker is a child murderer. Buzz Lightyear is a GLAAD crusader. Thor learns to wear an apron.
On top of that, movie after movie tells us sexual deviancy, mental illness, and narcissism are virtues. Worst of all, our heroes, the very characters that made these franchises golden geese for decades, are deconstructed, portrayed as bigots, and replaced with girls and racial minorities for no good reason other than tokenism. Sometimes, as the Equalizer franchise proved, there is a good reason — Denzel Washington is awesome. Mostly, though, the tokenism is so ham-handed and off-putting that the bad taste in our mouths tells us not to bother purchasing a ticket.

John Nolte’s article hits a bulls-eye with its true portrayal of story lines put out in recent Hollywood productions. Tired franchises and superheroes are not what the public wants to see. At the forefront of this stupidity is Disney. Lacking creativity, they have purchased movie rights from Steve Jobs, George Lucas and Marvel Comics. Even worse, they have remade these classic works incorporating unpopular woke social values. The results speak for themselves.
My husband and I are huge movie buffs. I remember standing in line for 1 1/2 to see Jurassic Park on opening night. We live in a town with a university and community college, so there were many college kids and high school kids in the crowd, including our high school kid and her friend. This was an old theater from the 20s or 30s – huge – and the kids were so excited that one side of the theater started yelling “Less Filling” and the other side “Tastes Great” – a beer commercial at the time.
Next the crowd began to do the Wave up and down through the theater. When the part came where the dinosaur chased the children up into the ceiling, I suddenly realized I was screaming out loud, but it didn’t matter because so was the rest of the crowd. It was like the entire theater were as one watching that film. And Jurassic Park is not a “great film”, but it was entertaining.
Going to the movies used to be fun, or enlightening, or dramatic, or for the men or for the women in the audience. Or for little kids holding their popcorn and soda pop. Today they charge an arm and a leg, the film ain’t good, and there are 15 people in the theater, so we stay home and find something we can stream. But we did not stop going to the theater because of Covid – we stopped a long time ago when the movies became a mess and all of the beauty of a great film was lost.
