Eber: Only in California Books

California is made for comedians.  Racists are teaching in our schools.  Criminals are protected by big city DA’s.  Illegal aliens are protected by the Democrat Party and Gavin Newsom.  Hollywood types are defending the Hamas terrorists.  Our corporations are demanding workers who are white admit they are racists—and hire based on DEI not qualifications.

How I saved a bundle for my company using Project Labor Agreements (PLA’s) on multibillion dollar projects.  Surprisinglyan abundance of literature could be found on this subject.  Construction craft’s unions and their crony capitalist partners under supervision of the California Legislature postulated PLA’s are a sound investment.

Office holders claim despite additional costs of up to 25% in building contracts, a bottom line for success can be found.  In their mind only union labor can guarantee high quality work and properly train apprentices. The librarian reminded me, contrary opinions on this subject have been banned as they offend SIEU members staffing the shelves.

For the added expense, all PLA’s agreements pledge not to strike work sites.  How this perk might be considered an advantage over non-union vendors has never been explained.

Despite paying “prevailing wages” non-Union businesses and their employees are excluded from competing on projects involving PLA’s.  For Progressives in Sacramento, this slight is acceptable collateral damage.  Union donations to Democratic office holders political campaigns are an important mainstay in California politics.

PLA’s is a buzz phrase for extortion, blackmail, incompetence and corruption.  That is the California way.  This article was written as satire—but based on fact.

Only in California Books by Richard Eber

Richard Eber, Exclusive to the California Political News and Views,  2/14/24  www.capoliticalnewsandviews.com

Last week when electrical power was down at home, I ventured to the nearby public library. With lots of time to kill, I decided to look for books that might have been missed in the past.

The first thing that came to mind were Case studies of fiscal responsibility by Gavin Newsom while Mayor of San Francisco and Governor of California.  Inselecting this topic, I wasn’t sure if this government primer authored by California’s CEO was in the fiction or non-fiction section?

History has shown, if revenues have ever exceeded spending for a fiscal year, Newsom has always spent these funds on non-sustainable subsidies for social services.  Such cash outlays have never been canceled.

When my search for Newsom’s writings proved futile, the guy at the information desk directed me to the Science Fiction Department. Sure enough, The book I was looking could be found on shelf 3, resting between 1984 and Brave New World.

Transgender sex manual for Middle Schoolers.  I was toldthis has proven to be a popular book.  The copy I found was frayed with the pages sticking together.  One chapter queried 10 questions your 12-year-old son might have pertaining to his sexuality; but was afraid to ask.

I surmised the days of parents carrying out the sacred duty of having “the talk” are now over.

Wise and Safe Use of future Nuclear Power Plants in California.  Even going through the pale green colored Readers Guide to Periodical Literature I could not find anything on this subject.  Apparently, California prefers solar power and windmill farms to safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly nuclear power plants.

Case studies of Bicycle Lanes that have reduced rush hour traffic.  For this one I went directly to the fiction section.  Despite billions of dollars coming from gas tax revenues to subsidize transportations version of “white elephants”, not one instance can be found of special bike lanes on city streets ever easing traffic congestion for commuters going or coming home from work. In most instances traveling by two wheeled bicycle conveyance for anything except recreational purposes is rare.

Discarding gas stoves, water heaters and other appliances with electric substitutes is imperative. Much of the literature on the benefits to Green Energy by outlawing the use of natural gas can be found in new laws being enacted in Berkeley, San Francisco, and San Jose.  It matters not that natural gas is relatively an abundant, cheap, and clean energy source.

Also to be noted is that electric power in California is largely fueled by petroleum products. To “greenies” compromising on natural gas consumption is considered in Climate Change circles to be high treason.

What goes into California having the best kept roads in the United States.  Again, we are venturing in the genre of books that have not been published. Despite the highest gas taxes in the country, much of the proceeds have been spent on mass transitbike lanes, and the Bullet Train.  Fixing potholes or widening lanes on US 99, Interstate 5, and other well-traveled roads, are way down in the “to do” list for Caltrans.

Top 10 Oil Companies who think Cap-and-Trade is a success?  There are no takers from energy producers and manufacturing concerns agreeing to this one. Environmentalists beg to differ as they tout in magazines the program’s success. Those who argue against the failed results of Cap-and-Trade point to the thousands of one-way moving vans leaving the state in record numbers each week.

How to seek unemployment, welfare, tax rebate benefits, even while doing time in the California prison system.  There has been much written about the illegal activities of incarcerated felons.  Over one billion dollars of was extracted from the Feds by those residing behind bars.

Even worse 17 billion dollars more of fraudulent unemployment claims were filed by applicants living in California. The State is still on the hook with the Feds for what amounts to be massive embezzlement.   If only the Progressives in Sacramento worried more about this rather than prosecuting conservatives for alleged hate crimes using non-woke approved vocabulary words.

While being 7th in line, how to charge your electric vehicle in the winter in less than 30 minutes? This dilemma is especially prevalent at busy charging stations during snowstorms.  I was told off the record that the best way one can venture to the front is with the assistance of products manufactured by Smith & Wesson.  It was never mentioned what caliber weapon is best for the job.

Finishing my stay at the public library, I was grateful to see the light of day.  My recent excursion to this temple of higher learning was much more harrowing than “when I wore a younger man’s clothes” In those days it was even possible to understand the Dewey Decimal System.

  1. I laughed out loud when I read the very first sentence in this article: “I ventured to the nearby public library.” Surely, what was to come would be humorous, and it was.
