The die is cast. In 220 days America will choose between Trump or Biden for President. Trump with his record of prosperity, security and openness vs. Bidens record of economic despair, wars and censorship, using the FBI and CIA as his Stasi. There will be Third Party candidates like RFK, Jr., Jill Stein, Cornell West and others.
Like it or not, those are our choices—unless the Democrats admit that a man with dementia should not be running for President.
You may not like the personalities of either major candidate. Does not matter. Look at the record and decide.
TWO SCHLEMIELS
By Richard Colman, Exclusive to the California Political News and Views, 4/1/24 www.capoliticalnewsandviews.com
In America’s two major political parties, two “schlemiels” (Yiddish for “bunglers”) are running for president.
The schlemiels are, of course, Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
In recent weeks, both candidates have expressed anti-Israel and anti-Semitic sentiments.
Let’s start with Biden.
Biden does not realize that Israel, a country now at war, is an ally of the United States.
Biden wants a cease-fire in the current war in the Gaza Strip, a territory controlled by Palestinians and Hamas, a terrorist, anti-Semitic group.
On Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas invaded Israel, killing between 1,200 and 1,400 Jews. Other Jews –- both Israeli and American — were taken hostage. The Oct. 7 attack was the worst atrocity against Jews since the era of Nazi Germany.
The October 2023 attack on Israel can be compared to the Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese attack on the United States. In December 1941, Japan destroyed Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, killing 3,000 Americans and bringing the United States into World War II. In both the 1941 and 2023 attacks, the existence of both the U.S. and Israel were respectively jeopardized.
The Israelis, with American military aid, fought back in 2023 and beyond, killing about 30,000 Gaza residents. Homes and hospitals in Gaza were destroyed.
Biden does not know much about Jewish history. In 70 AD (CE), the Romans invaded Biblical Israel, conquering it. Most of the Jews in Biblical Israel left for places in Asia Minor, Africa, and Europe. The Jewish departure was known as the Diaspora (or dispersion).
The Jews who left Biblical Israel were treated badly, injured, or killed in their new locations. Anti-Semitism was rife in such places as Russia, Poland, Germany, and France. In England, King Edward I, expelled the Jews in 1290.
During the Adolf Hitler era in Germany (1933 to 1945), Jews were murdered in concentration camps and other places. Six million Jews died in Germany and German-occupied lands.
In 1897, in Basel, Switzerland, Theodor Herzl, a European Jew, sponsored a conference. Herzl recommended the establishment of a Jewish nation in and near Biblical Israel.
On May 14, 1948, the new nation of (modern) Israel was born. Since 1948, the Jews in Israel have had, in several wars, to fight off Arab enemies. In each war, Israel prevailed.
Israel is a democracy, the only democracy in the Middle East.
In the last 40 or so years, Israel has developed a modern, high-technology economy. Israel has produced high-quality goods and ideas in such fields as biotechnology, computing, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Biden should support Israel in its current conflict with Hamas. Also, Israel must fight off attacks emanating from Hezbollah, an Islamic terrorist group located in Lebanon (north of Israel).
Iran, an anti-Semitic, anti-American nation, is supplying weapons to Israel’s enemies. Iran is a theocratic, Islamic state. One would think that America would support Israel militarily because of Iran’s hatred of both America and Israel.
(In addition to Biden, Israel has come in for unneeded criticism from Sen. Charles Schumer (D-New York), the Senate majority leader and a Jew. Schumer has called on Israel to hold new elections. Speaking recently about Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, Schumer said that Netanyahu has “lost his way.” What right does Schumer have to criticize the leader of an allied country?)
Biden now supports a cease-fire in Gaza. Curiously, there were no calls for cease-fire after Japan, in 1941, attacked the U.S. Furthermore, a few days after Pearl Harbor, Nazi Germany declared war on the U.S. In America, there were no calls for a cease-fire concerning Germany.
As for Trump, he has said virtually nothing about the Gaza war.
Moreover, Trump, in March 2024, criticized American Jews who vote for Democrats. Trump has said that such Jews “hate Israel” and “hate their religion.”
Regarding Israel, Trump said, according to a Mar. 25, 2024, report in The Hill, Israel had made a “very big mistake” with the invasion of Gaza. The Hill is an online publication based in Washington, D.C.
At other times, Trump has used vile language to describe those with whom he disagrees. Trump has said there will be a “bloodbath” if, in 2024, he is not re-elected president. He has also used such terms a “vermin,” a term associated with Nazi criticism of Jews, to describe his opponents.
Neither Biden nor Trump can be described as supportive of Israel.
Yes, America has two schlemiels running for president. And there is not much that Americans can do about this phenomenon.
