The Los Angeles Police Department teamed up with the L.A. County Sheriff Department’s Regional Human Trafficking Task Force and over 100 other law enforcement agencies and victim advocacy groups to conduct “Operation Reclaim & Rebuild,” a weeklong sting into human trafficking across California.

According to an LAPD media release, the operation – conducted between Jan. 26 and Feb. 1 –primarily focused on rescuing victims of sexual slavery and human trafficking, apprehending their captors and disrupting the demand for vulnerable individuals.

As a result of “Operation Reclaim & Rebuild,” 547 suspects were arrested across California on various criminal charges, LAPD stated, with 333 of them described as “exploiters.”

A total of 166 adults were identified as trafficking victims, with a further 11 minors rescued from possible exploiters, bringing the total number of recovered victims to 177. All of them were offered support services; the minors were placed in protective custody and are receiving support from the Department of Children and Family Services.

“Through [investigators’] diligent efforts, vulnerable victims were rescued from further abuse, and victims who had been silenced by these atrocious crimes found their voices restored,” LAPD officials said in the media release. “Justice was served during the operation, as numerous suspects, who sought to prey on our young, were apprehended and brought to face the consequences of their actions.”

In a separate release, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman’s office announced charges against several individuals while also confirming that over 230 arrests were made by LAPD, LASD and the Long Beach Police Department.

The DA’s office identified the following individuals who were charged with crimes in relation to “Operation Reclaim and Rebuild”:

  • Jamaree Javanglyn Beckly, 24: Charged with one felony count of human trafficking of a minor for a commercial sex act and one felony count of pandering as an adult; arrested on Jan. 23 and pleaded not guilty to both charges on Jan. 27
  • William Dixon III, 32; Dvon Davonte Langhaslip, 34; Osborne Browne, 35: Each charged with one felony count of pandering by encouraging; all three were arrested on Jan. 27 and pleaded not guilty to their respective charges on Jan. 30
  • Albert Walker, 34: Charged with one felony count of pimping; pleaded not guilty on Feb. 3 and ordered to stay away from the victim and the Figueroa Corridor

If convicted as charged, Beckly faces a maximum of 13 years and four months in prison. Langhaslip and Walker each face six years, Dixon seven years and Brown faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.

Additional human trafficking cases filed by the L.A. County DA’s office will be announced in the coming days. Hochman previously declared on Jan. 22 that several additional suspects were also charged in connection with human sex trafficking and/or pandering of multiple victims in the Figueroa Corridor.

“Human traffickers are essentially modern-day slave masters who should be on clear notice that we will find them, arrest them, prosecute them and seek maximum time behind bars for their despicable acts of preying on young girls and boys,” Hochman stated. “This is not a threat but a promise…Our fight against this injustice is unwavering, and we will continue to stand firm until human trafficking is eradicated from our streets.”
