Zanoni pushes to allow ICE in local jails, reform Senate Bill 54

This is what a real Sheriff does.  In Fresno the Sheriff wants to get the bad guys off the streets.  He wants to help ICE find, detail and arrest criminals from foreign countries.  But, the State of California is still defending and promoting criminals—so this Sheriff wants to change the law.

“Zanoni told KMPH that SB 54 should be reformed to allow ICE to go into local jails to conduct their operations in a safe and confined environment rather than double down on the unpredictable nature of ICE sweeps in the community.

  • “In our jails you’re only dealing with individuals who are criminals, individuals who have committed crimes, versus when you’re out in the community there’s a whole lot of things that can happen,” Zanoni told the station. “People are scared. They may run because they see law enforcement, and they might not even be the target of ICE.”

Too bad we have Sheriffs like Fryhoff of Ventura and Bianco of Riverside that believe illegal alien criminals should be protected from ICE.  It is time for a Revolution in California.

Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni is speaking out against a state law that prevents law enforcement from communicating with immigration officers.

The backstory: Senate Bill 54, known as the California Values Act, was signed into law in 2017 after being supported by nearly all Democrats in the Legislature.

  • SB 54 prohibits law enforcement from detaining someone based on a hold request from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, arresting someone on an immigration warrant, participating in border patrol activities and from inquiring into a person’s immigration status.
  • The California Values Act is the law that effectively made California a sanctuary state.
  • The only communication allowed between ICE and local law enforcement is for certain serious and violent suspects.

State of play: President Donald Trump issued the Protecting the American People Against Invasion executive order on Jan. 20.

  • That order targets sanctuary states and cities, ordering that any jurisdictions seeking to interfere with federal law enforcement do not receive access to federal funds.

What he’s saying: Zanoni told KMPH that SB 54 should be reformed to allow ICE to go into local jails to conduct their operations in a safe and confined environment rather than double down on the unpredictable nature of ICE sweeps in the community.
