Alameda County and Berkeley issue new mask mandate

I thought the Recall of the Pro-Victim DA Price and the looney/Socialist Mayor of Oakland showed that Alameda County has regained its senses.  I was wrong.

“According to a statement from the Alameda Public Health Care Department, the mandate requires healthcare staff to wear masks in patient care areas from Nov. 1 to March 31.

Alameda County and the city of Berkeley, in alignment with neighboring health jurisdictions, have issued a mask mandate for staff and healthcare providers working in facilities across Alameda County and Berkeley.

The mandate requires staff to wear masks in patient care areas from Nov. 1 to March 31 according to a statement from the Alameda Public Health Care Department.

If these pretend medical professionals had read the studies, they would know the masks are worthless.  Can you trust them with the rest of your health care?

Alameda County and the city of Berkeley, in alignment with neighboring health jurisdictions, have issued a mask mandate for staff and healthcare providers working in facilities across Alameda County and Berkeley.

The mandate requires staff to wear masks in patient care areas from Nov. 1 to March 31 according to a statement from the Alameda Public Health Care Department.

The facilities impacted include licensed general and long-term acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, inpatient psychiatric facilities and dialysis and infusion clinics.

“The purpose of this requirement is to lower the risk of exposure to respiratory viruses for the highly vulnerable patients in these care settings,” said Austin Wingate, public information manager for the Alameda County Public Health Department, in an email.

This mandate aligns with what is usually considered the flu season. Cases of the flu, RSV and COVID-19 increase during this time of year. Older adults, young children and individuals with chronic underlying conditions are most vulnerable, Wingate said.

Mask mandates targeted toward unvaccinated staff have been issued even before the COVID pandemic, said Anna Harte, medical director at University Health Services.

During the pandemic, various mandates were imposed, but this new order is an effort to combine all into one, Harte said. However, this mandate is restricted to hospitals and high risk facilities.

The order will not require other individuals to wear a mask but they are strongly recommended for all people entering healthcare facilities.

Harte noted that the mandate is not a response to rising COVID-19 cases. She said that the Wastewater Data set, one of the most reliable, reveals that COVID-19 case numbers have remained relatively low compared to what they were in August.
