This is crazy. In Bakersfield there is an endorsed candidate who almost 20 years ago tried to slit the throat of his wife.
“Her husband and sister sat down with Eyewitness News on Monday, to share the story and make a public plea.
“He attacked my sister, that ultimately led to him cutting her throat, leaving her to get 11 stitches in her neck, leaving her with a scar,” said Sachiko Morrison, the victim’s sister.
Morrison said she was told it all started one night in June 2005 when Madrigal was at a party with her sister where he started showing unusual behavior.
“One point, my sister and her friend were sitting on the couch, having a great time, and he took a swig of their drink and spit it all over them,” said Morrison.
The situation escalated after she tried to confront him over taking her car keys, which is when he pulled out his knife.
The woman’s husband, Sean Sullivan, held back tears as he described his reaction to the revelation.
“The love of my life, the best mom that anybody can ask for. I can’t sit back, I can’t,” he said with tears going down his face. “I want everybody to know that has a vote, that he did not come out and say sorry, he said it was a joke, it was a small scar.”
Did those who endorse him know about it? Now that they know will they withdraw their endorsement?

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — In an exclusive interview full of emotion and sorrow, a victim who did not appear on camera shared troubling allegations against Mike Madrigal, the Ward 5 candidate that Eyewitness News interviewed in early October.
Her husband and sister sat down with Eyewitness News on Monday, to share the story and make a public plea.
Sullivan met his wife one year after the incident when they were both serving in the Marine Corps.
Only now, nearly two decades later, he learned the full story.
Although the woman did not want to be interviewed, she showed Eyewitness News her scar that has been on her neck for nearly 20 years.
Madrigal was charged with two misdemeanors related to this case.
He pled no contest and served a few days in jail, as well as a three year probation.
The victim said:
Every day, I have to drive past his signs, and knowing that somebody who was my abuser may be my city councilman. What happens if I have an issue that I want to take out, I’m gonna have to go to my abuser?
Madrigal is endorsed by the Kern County Republican Party, as well as Congressman Vince Fong and Former House speaker Kevin McCarthy.
The family says they hope these political leaders will reconsider their decisions now that they know the story.
“If she wants them to resend it, and acknowledge how serious this situation is, then resend it. How can you as a party affiliation leaders ignore a situation like this and continue your support?,” said Sullivan.
