Colman: IS THE TRUMP ERA OVER?

To win in November, we must fully decide what we want in a President.  The current poll leaders, by far are President Trump and President Biden.  In the famous words of President Reagan, “Are you better off today than you were four years ago?”

Not even close.  Then then question is, do we want someone with a proven record of prosperity, NO wars, immigration control—or someone who is openly corrupt, looks like he took bribes from the Communist Chinese Party—and other totalitarians—plus thinks the 17% inflation since he came into office is a good thing?

Yes, Trump has mean tweets, has no filter, uses silly nicknames for his opponents.  So then question is are we more worried about tweets than prosperity?

What do you think?  Should Trump be re-nominated and re-elected?

IS THE TRUMP ERA OVER?

By Richard Colman, Exclusive to the California Political News and Views,  12/27/23   www.capoliticalnewsandviews.com

Is Donald Trump finished, or is he on his way to re-election?

Trump, a polarizing figure, has been in the last several years his “own worst enemy, according to editorials in The Wall Street Journal.

The Journal has criticized Trump on several major issues.  They are:

·      The Republican Party’s refusal to deal effectively with the abortion issue.

·      Trump’s plan, if re-elected, to impose a 10% tariff on all imports to America.

·      Trump’s inability to win the popular vote in presidential elections.

The Journal’s editorials are strongly conservative.  Thus, when the Journal criticizes a Republican, something is amiss.

No one knows if, in 2024, Trump will be re-elected.  He has weak opposition from an all-too-liberal Democratic Party, including President Joe Biden, who is now 81 years old.  (Trump’s age is 77.)

The Democrats have been too lenient on illegal immigration, crime, and inflation.  If, instead of Trump, the Republicans nominated Nikki Haley for president, they might win the White House and both houses of Congress.

Recently, a major conservative columnist, Victor Davis Hanson, said that Trump’s enemies are out to destroy Trump.  In a column dated Dec. 21, 2023, Hanson wrote:  “In no way is Trump’s conduct on January 6 [2021] comparable to calling for secession, much less prompting a Civil War that cost the country 700,000 lives.”

Speaking of the indictments that Trump has faced, Hanson said, “We are witnessing  ongoing lawfare by state and local prosecutors to destroy the current leading presidential candidate.”

Hanson may be correct.

But there is another possibility.

While opponents of Trump have tried to end his political career,  Trump has another enemy -– himself.

Trump has proposed that, if re-elected in 2024, he will become a dictator during his first day in office.  Where in the American Constitution does the word “dictator” appear?

America does not need a dictator.  America needs a president who will support the Constitution.

Republicans would be better off if they supported Haley, a former governor of South Carolina and a former ambassador to the United Nations.  Alternatively, Chris Christie, a former governor of New Jersey and a former U.S. attorney, would be better than Trump.

Trump is ambivalent about supporting America’s allies in Europe and Asia.  Trump will jeopardize American national security.

(Biden, as stated, is weak on such matters as illegal immigration, crime, and inflation.  But Biden has never said that he wants to be a dictator.)

In short, Trump is the most dangerous candidate for president.  Republicans need a candidate like Ronald Reagan, They do not need Trump.

  1. The Trump era is probably not over. Mostly because this nation has been devolving steadily for decades, and a good number of voters seem to agree with Trump as to why — entrenched bureaucracies, policies rewarding takers at the expense of contributors, delusional energy decrees, border policies that truly endanger national security, rivers of money sustaining useless global institutions, a dysfunctional Congress that seems to have forgotten what their members are there to do. So, voters might want to cast a very loud protest vote and choose Trump. They might view the alternatives candidates as same-old-same-old, unable/unwilling to make the drastic changes necessary to change course.

  2. I pray to God that the Trump era is not over and gone. The man who is not a socialist and understands the difference between a Representative Republic versus a Democracy is our only salvation from socialism in this country.
We are teetering on the precipice of a “one world order” as evidenced by the entrenched beauracrats and “liberal” social policies of the Democrat party in our country. Open your eyes America, we need Trump to lead us out of the socialist morass we are presently in.
