Eber: Much to be grateful for

Happy Thanksgiving!!  We have much to be thankful for this year—including the saving of our nation.

“We would be remiss not mentioning the continuing decline of major newspapers including the New York and Los Angeles Times, along with the once proud S.F. Chronicle.  They are no longer considered by most voters to be a voice of reason.

It’s a new ballgame with social media and pod casts gaining influence. Typical of changing  media trends was Kamala Harris’s decision to appear on low rated Saturday Night Live rather than on Joe Rogan’s popular pod cast.

Yes, with all of these much-needed changes circa 2024, we have a lot to be grateful for.

I am thankful that Democrats do not use common sense or reason to run campaigns.  Just wait till 2026.

Much to be grateful for by Richard Eber

Richard Eber, Exclusive to the California Political News and Views,  11/28/24  www.capoliticalnewsandviews.com

It’s Thanksgiving once again.  Time for Americans and even some illegal aliens to be grateful for the abundance of food and material possessions which makes us be envied by the entire world.

This reality of appreciating the riches Americans enjoy, came into play yesterday.  At the time I was fighting the bureaucracy of Verizon’s  cell phone customer service located in the Philippines.

As always my with conversation with them (while on hold) tells  me how important this call is to them. After several elevator music infused prompts advising “this conversation was being recorded for training and quality control purposes”, the end result was complete frustration.

There were at least 10  similar fruitless phone calls experienced by wife and I to no avail.

Outside of being called “Mam” and “Sir”,  it was learned the Reps hands were tied because of them lacking  authority to solve any basic problems.

As a last resort, I ventured to the Verizon office. Trying keep my composure  and not using “F” words, was a difficult task.

While waiting,  I struck up a conversation with an older gentleman.  Fred postulated  the people of West Africa disliked and distrusted Americans.  He went on to conclude  these  folks preferred to deal with Putin because he was honest with them.

To this I said “hog wash”,  I then interjected  “Russia is a poor trade partner because all they can offer is arms and oil.  If the USA was such a terrible place, why do so many people from the region wish to immigrate to our County?”

This diatribe made me feel better; but didn’t help in solving multiple complaints about this rudderless cell phone company. It irks us they  depend on A.I. and customer service lacking basic skills in the English language.

With my blood pressure falling after departing Verizon, I came to the conclusion with Thanksgiving soon approaching, it would be best for me to be grateful for all the material wealth God has bestowed upon my family.

I should be filled with gratitude for the recent election of Donald Trump. He was able to overcome a criminal conviction, negative press coverage, and faulty polling to win the Presidency.  As a bonus Republicans won a majority in both chambers of Congress.

For me, winning in November is a pretty new phenomenon.  Outside of Trump’s triumph in 2016, I can’t remember celebrating a Republican victory for any candidate that garnered my vote in about 20 years.

As might be expected, things haven’t changed much in California this year. Progressives still control all elected State positions and over 77% of seats in the  Legislature.

Now, there is a ray of hope.  On November 5th crime fighting Prop 36 passed, and a number of progressive office holders were recalled. In addition  efforts by Newsom to reduce the two thirds majority needed for approval of local revenue bonds-tax measures was rejected.

This slight shift to the right should increase with California’s growing budget deficits continuing under Gavin Newsom’s incompetent leadership.  If the Governor were recalled today, rather than three years ago, the results might be different.

The truth be known, Republicans in the Golden State have an excellent opportunity for a rebirth in the next election cycle. Much will depend on the success of Donald Trump’s second term in office. If he can help end the war in the Ukraine and tame the proxy aggression of Iran, this could be a great benefit for California conservatives.  They would gain favor if Independents and moderates from both parties would see  GOP policies actually work.

Along with deregulation, increasing energy production, and cutting government waste, should reduce concerns of Trump haters to the person they repeatedly refer to as the Adolf Hitler of today.

In contrast to previous years, the media is expected to take a major step back.  Left wing subsidized MPR will need to a new funding source.  Comcast, who owns low ratings plagued MSNBC, is trying to sell the cable news network.  Following Rachel Meadows tearful breakdown after Trump’s victory, the new owner might choose to rename the station PMSNBC!  Ditto tor CNN who are in the process of reducing staff.

We would be remiss not mentioning the continuing decline of major newspapers including the New York and Los Angeles Times, along with the once proud S.F.

Yes, with all of these much needed changes circa 2024, we have a lot to be grateful for.

Casting aside my grievances with Verizon and 800 World, I am one happy camper as Thanksgiving approaches.  With this in mind, I promise not to complain about dry turkey, cream of mushroom infused green bean casserole, sweet potatoes smothered by melted marshmallows, or mince meat pies.

Just save me some dark meat, cranberry sauce, and a safe return home before dark.
