Have an electric vehicle? Have an EV in a woody area? Want to take a chance to create a fire?
“Assemblyman Tom Lackey (R-Palmdale), a former California Highway Patrol officer and a vocal proponent of safeguarding our communities, released a statement following the incident:
“The electric vehicle fire in Ojai is another alarming reminder of the dangers posed by these types of incidents and the Governor’s lack of a comprehensive plan to keep our roads and neighborhoods safe,” said Assemblyman Lackey.

“Governor Newsom has championed electric vehicles, but where is the guardianship when it comes to protecting our communities from the risks they present?” Lackey added. “Our firefighters, first responders, and citizens are on the frontlines of this problem. They deserve better guidance, better resources, and better leadership.”
As California accelerates its transition to electric vehicles, the Governor must prioritize public safety and provide the resources needed to address these emerging risks.
This is why we can’t afford to have EVs……….. not just financially.
