HEARD ON THE TOM/TOMS

Heard on the Tom/Toms

  1. A few months ago, Jon Paul White, the newly elected California Republican Party Representative went to Sacramento.  He attempted to go to the CRP offices.  He was NOT allowed in, he got as far as the lobby and the CRP is on the 4th floor. The staff would not allow him into the HQ–yet, per the by-laws, he is a member of the Executive Committee and, though without a vote, can sit with the Board.

White has been an active Chair of the CRP Associate Reps.  He sends out emails promoting growth in the Party, getting involved in campaign, building the base.  One idea he had was an orientation session for Associate CRP members, to train them in what the Party is, how to become effective in campaigns and how to grow the number of Associates and volunteers for the Party.

Yet, the Executive director of the Party, Bryan Watkins, notified the CRP Associate Rep Jon Paul White he is NOT allowed to use the logo or name of the California Republican Party.  This is an official organization of the CRP.

Yet, the Board of directors have never banned the use of the CAGOP logo or name for official Republican business.  I note many Board members use the logo for their officials communications—they were elected—as was White.

In other words, Bryan Watkins, by his decree, wiped out the CRP Bylaw provision creating the Associate Representative election and position.  Clearly what he is saying is that the Party should not grow members or volunteers.  Yet, all the Associates are on the email list of the CRP, getting beg letters for money.  They are good enough to donate, not good enough to learn how to be effective activists.

What is wrong with this picture?  This needs to be immediately corrected.

  •  Two years ago, after the 2022 Primary, Chair Jessica Patterson used the Board of Directors to “unendorsed” several GOP nominees.  A hearing was held.  The victim, ur, nominee, was brought before the Board—then told of the violations alleged—from the time given to find out the crime they committee, till the end of their “defense” was a TOTAL of three minutes.  No notice before the hearing, no opportunity to bring witnesses, documents, etc.  Three minutes—and they were gone.  In several cases like Congressional nominee Michael Cargile, the CRP then sent out a press release smearing him.

Now Jessica faces a dilemma.  Cargile was again nominated by the Republicans and voters of his district for Congress.  Will Jessica again attempt to take away the vote from the Republicans who nominated Cargile?  Sounds exactly like what the Democrats have been doing to President Trump.

Yesterday morning, I heard that a County chair, who got the CRP to endorse a candidate for Congress, who came in fourth—she also raised money for him—a great conservative, but her candidate, is looking to get the winning Republican “unendorsed” by the CRP.  Will the CRP allow this denouncement of Republican voters again?

  • The CRP and the Establishment did not do as well as they expected on Tuesday.  In San Diego, the CRP endorsed Andrew Hayes—he was trounced by the Republican candidate, Carl DeMaio.

In Fresno, the CRP and the Establishment wanted in the 8th AD David J. Tangipa.  Former Congressman George Radanovich came out a strong leader, by 4,000 votes, in the race.  David, is just 35 votes ahead of the Democrat—with lots of votes to be counted

In Sacramento County, the chair wanted Craig DeLaLuz—a good conservative—she raised money for him—yet he came in fourth—with Chris Bish winning.

Then in Bakersfield, Vince Fong will go down in history.  He WON the top spot for both Assembly and Congress.  The Congressional runoff is March 19.  If he wins that seat, he will immediately be sworn in.  That means in April, May and June during the discussion and vote on the $74 billion deficit, Bakersfield and a large segment of the Central Valley will not be represented.

  •  Finally, a clarification.  It looks like the anti-Trumpers are taking credit for the increase in GOP voter registration.  But, what is behind the numbers?

California law is clear, only Republicans can vote in the Republican Primary for President.  So, those who hate the GOP for lacking values and principles, became NPP voters.  But, to support Donald Trump they had to re-register as Republican.  As I go through the County Central Committee elections, I note that the more moderate and the anti-Trumpers lost their election.  County after county, hard core Trump supporters won Central Committee seats.

Like elsewhere in the County, the GOP is moving toward free markets, smaller government and a Party that represents the grassroots, not the corporations or union.  In Texas, SIX anti-school choice Republican in their House of Representatives, who took UNION money to vote against quality education for children, were defeated by the Governor and Attorney General.  That is leadership.

Some see a parade, go to the front, wave a baton and believe they are responsible for the parade.  In politics we always see people taking credit for the work or others.  This is one of those times.

  1. Thank you for bringing up this topic. It may be a blessing in disguise to not receive a CAGOP endorsement. What does the CAGOP actually do for California Republicans and especially for Republican candidates? I’m thinking of the current Republican in the US Senate race. What thought actually goes into the decision to endorse a candidate? If it doesn’t really matter if a candidate has the Republican party endorsement or not, what good are they? Where does their money go besides paying their salaries? Results matter, so it’s an important question don’t you think?
