After Alexander, Seleucus and the Seleucid Empire gained control, after which Judea the Jewish State under the Hasmoneans (Maccabees) gained control and retained control before slowly ceding control to the Romans via Antipater and Herod. No octopi or snorks or whatever those made up names are. The Romans of course renamed Judea into Palestina after the Third Jewish War when Hadrian got fed up with the Jews and named after their historic enemy (the Philistines, who had ceased to exist in the 5th-4th Centuries BCE).
