SoCal Edison—NOT Climate Change Hoax—Caused Massive Fire

Newsom, Biden, Gore, Kerry and the high school dropout, Greta, all believe every fire is caused by climate change.  In fact, NONE have been proven to be caused by the scam of the century.  Instead, like the L.A. fire, it was arson or a utility company.

“A Southern California electric utility company agreed to pay $82.5 million to resolve federal claims arising from the 2020 Bobcat Fire in the Angeles National Forest above Los Angeles, the Justice Department announced on Friday.

The settlement is the largest wildfire cost recovery by the United States in the Central District of California. The fire scorched nearly 100,000 acres of the Angeles National Forest. In 2023, the federal government sued Southern California Edison, accusing the power company of failing to maintain its power lines in the area where the fire originated. The fire was one of the largest in Los Angeles County history.”

At some time, the media needs to start telling the truth about the climate change scam.  Until then, they are lying to us, just as they liked about Biden.

(CN) — A Southern California electric utility company agreed to pay $82.5 million to resolve federal claims arising from the 2020 Bobcat Fire in the Angeles National Forest above Los Angeles, the Justice Department announced on Friday.

The fire was one of the largest in Los Angeles County history.

United States Attorney Bull Essayli said the settlement “provides meaningful compensation to taxpayers for the extensive costs of fighting the Bobcat Fire and for the widespread damage to public lands.”

“My office will continue to aggressively pursue recovery for suppression costs and environmental damages from any entity that causes harm to the public’s forests and other precious national resources,” Essayli said in a statement.

The Bobcat Fire torched around 175 square miles of the forest on the edge of Los Angeles in September 2020, and investigators blamed SoCal Edison and its tree maintenance contractor for sparking the fire. The United States accused the two companies of neglecting to properly maintain trees near power lines, causing a blaze to ignite when a branch came into contact with the power lines and fell on the ground.

SoCal Edison was required to maintain vegetation around its power lines, but the federal government accused the company of ignoring a known hazardous tree.

Residents of Antelope Valley in northern LA County had to flee their homes as the fire spread, driven by strong winds. Ultimately, the Bobcat Fire destroyed 171 structures and 178 vehicles and damaged 47 structures.

The Forest Service spent over $56 million suppressing the fire — which took around two months to fully contain — and incurred $65 million in property and natural resource damages. Around $769,000 was spent on burned area emergency response costs.

The lawsuit sought to recoup firefighting costs and extensive damages to the forest. The Angeles National Forest is home to the federally endangered mountain yellow-legged frog and other endangered species of fish and birds. Over 100 miles of trails and several campgrounds remained closed to the public for years following the fire, and the federal government said the fire destroyed irreplaceable cultural and heritage resources.

Under the settlement, the power company has 60 days from May 14 to pay the $82.5 million and doesn’t have to admit wrongdoing or fault.

“We are grateful to receive these settlement funds, which mark an important step toward recovery and restoration,” Deputy Forest Supervisor Tony Martinez of the Angeles National Forest said in a statement. “These resources will help us rehabilitate burned areas, restore wildlife habitats, and strengthen our forests’ resilience to future wildfires.”

This is not the first time the electric utility company has settled with the federal government. In 2023, SoCal Edison and two other companies paid the Forest Service $22 million to settle a lawsuit arising from damages from a 2016 wildfire that burned 32,000 acres in central California.

Last year, SoCal Edison agreed to pay $80 million to resolve claims stemming from the 2017 Thomas Fire in the Los Padres National Forest. At the time, the settlement represented the largest wildfire cost recovery settlement in the district.

Acting U.S. Forest Service Pacific Southwest Regional Forester Jason Kuiken celebrated the latest settlement, saying the settlements with the power company are “essential in restoring our landscapes after wildfires.”

  1. Definitely arson – DEW and its fellow travelers to blame. The rest are just convenient patsys or windows of opportunity.
