Newsom is using fish bait, delta smelt, as an excuse to dump needed water into the ocean. Actually, we have very few delta smelt. So, the State is growing them, to create more, so water goes to the ocean instead of people. Now, President Trump has ended the funding for the delta smelt breeding program. Simple solution to a dangerous problem.
“President Donald Trump is reportedly pulling all funding for a program that supports the delta smelt.
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that UC Davis, which runs a captive breeding program to help the delta smelt survive, is having its funding cut.
The big picture: According to the report, UC Davis scientists were told last month that their funding from the Bureau of Reclamation will not be renewed.
- Federal funding expires at the end of February, and university officials told the Chronicle that they have other funding sources to continue to program through the end of the year.
In other words, NEWSOM is causing the water shortage by breeding more unneeded smelt. That is his excuse to kill off agriculture in California. We need a California Revolution to end this stupidity. Do you want tax dollars used to grow the smelt, so water becomes even less available?

The big picture: According to the report, UC Davis scientists were told last month that their funding from the Bureau of Reclamation will not be renewed.
- Federal funding expires at the end of February, and university officials told the Chronicle that they have other funding sources to continue to program through the end of the year.
- The federal government has supported the program with $3 million annually over a five-year grant.
What they’re saying: “The UC Davis Fish Culture and Conservation Laboratory’s work is vital for the long-term health of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and the endangered aquatic life currently at the site, including the delta smelt,” UC Davis spokesman Bill Kisliuk told the Chronicle. “We are disappointed that the current Bureau of Reclamation grant has not been renewed for this facility.”
Driving the news: Delta smelt have long been a thorn in the side of farmers and communities throughout the Central Valley hoping to get more water allocated by the federal government.
- But the Endangered Species Act sets rules that require pumping in the delta to stop when conditions that support the fish are not met.
Flashback: Trump signed an executive action titled “Putting People Over Fish” when he was inaugurated on Jan. 20.
- That order directs the federal government to restart the work from Trump’s first term to route more water from the Delta to other parts of the state.
