UCLA Chancellor Announces Initiative to Combat Antisemitism Amid Federal Scrutiny

For years UCLA has been the HQ for the Klan in Tan and an affiliate of Gaza University.  Now that the DOJ and FBI are investing this openly bigoted school, they are going to do something about it.  That is funny!!

“In a message to the UCLA community Monday, Chancellor Julio Frenk said the university has launched an initiative to fight antisemitism, appointing UCLA Anderson School of Management Professor Stuart Gabriel to lead an “action group” that will include students, faculty, and civic leaders from diverse backgrounds.

“This will be a standing initiative — reporting directly to me — and will have the support it requires to achieve our goals,” Frenk wrote.

“Sadly, it took of 16 months of discrimination and violence against Jewish students, several lawsuits, alumni boycotts, and now an investigatory visit by the United States Department of Justice for UCLA to take this step,” said Sam Yebri, a Los Angeles attorney and community leader. “But talk is cheap. What matters is whether UCLA actually follows the law, enforces its policies, and holds those intimidating and attacking Jewish students on campus accountable.”

For a Jewish student going to UCLA is like being in Gaza—and being in a classroom is like being in an Hamas tunnel.  They are not safe, so why do they stay?

LOS ANGELES — Days after a federal task force announced plans to visit UCLA as part of a nationwide review of antisemitic incidents on university campuses, the school’s new chancellor outlined plans Monday to bolster education and training to combat anti-Jewish bias.

The Federal Task Force to Combat Anti-Semitism, which was created under a Jan. 29 executive order from President Donald Trump, notified 10 universities, including UCLA and USC, that it was reviewing allegations that the institutions may have failed to protect Jewish students and faculty from unlawful discrimination. The U.S. Department of Justice announced the upcoming visits in a Feb. 28 statement, though no timeframe or details of specific incidents were provided.

Both UCLA and USC were among schools that saw large-scale pro-Palestinian demonstrations last year, following the Israel-Hamas war sparked by the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel. UCLA, in particular, was the site of one of the largest campus encampments.

In a message to the UCLA community Monday, Chancellor Julio Frenk said the university has launched an initiative to fight antisemitism, appointing UCLA Anderson School of Management Professor Stuart Gabriel to lead an “action group” that will include students, faculty, and civic leaders from diverse backgrounds.

Last week, the Department of Education, Justice, Health and Human Services, and the General Services Administration announced the immediate cancellation of approximately $400 million in federal grants and contracts to Columbia University, citing inaction in addressing antisemitic harassment.

UCLA’s initiative will implement recommendations from the university’s Task Force to Combat Antisemitism and Anti-Israeli Bias, chaired by Gabriel. According to Frenk, the recommendations include:

  • Enhancing relevant training and education
  • Improving the complaint system
  • Assuring enforcement of current and new policies
  • Cooperating with stakeholders

“UCLA is at an inflection point,” Frenk wrote. “Building on past efforts and lessons, we must now push ourselves to extinguish antisemitism, completely and definitively. The principles on which UCLA was founded … point us toward a clear course of action: We must persevere in our fight to end hate, however it manifests itself.”

USC, which is also among the schools under federal review, issued a statement last week reaffirming its commitment to a “welcoming and non-discriminatory campus environment for all members of our community.”

Other universities under scrutiny include Columbia University, George Washington University, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, New York University, Northwestern University, UC Berkeley, and the University of Minnesota.
